Custer, SD to Steamboat Springs, CO

We leave Custer and head towards Steamboat Springs, CO to visit Gary's daughter and grandkids.

We stop at Fort Laramie

and on to the Lincoln Highway

Not liking seeing the white stuff

We get a dusting of snow in Steamboat Springs but Tucson and Emma don't seem to mind.
Gary's Grandson wanted to take him to a couple museums so we had a museum day.
This is the Wyman Living History Museum just outside Craig, CO.  Very interesting and chock full of stuff. and free to boot.
Outside is a ton of equipment and vehicles
 and an Elk

Inside is just loaded with stuff
Outside on the hill are vintage cars and other equipment
Next is the Museum of Northwest Colorado

It's full of guns and cowboy stuff

 Butting heads rarelyends well

While in Steamboat I was parked behind Gary's 5th wheel and went to pull out, it was dark and I was watching for traffic coming from behind me and didn't pull out far enough and clipped the back end of his trailer.  Damaged my rear passenger wheel well and took off the back panel on his 5th wheel and crunched the bumper.  He took it better than me.

Other than that it was a nice visit but we exceeded the 3 day rule - fish and company stink after 3 days, time to move on to warmer snow free weather.

On the Road Again - Day 2 Wall Drugs and Custer

You can't pass through the Badlands without stopping at Wall Drugs

Gary has been bringing his Grandson's old stuffed toy Winfred along for pictures and I make postcards to send him.

Of course Tucson is always willing to pose especially when it's right up his alley!
Time to move on to Custer

We stay at the State Game Lodge campground.  No Buffalo but some bighorn sheep grazing.

The State Game Lodge.  We went inside and ran into the old manager from the Rockcrest Lodge.  Found out Josh the General Manager was now Vice President and working that day so we stopped in to say Hi!  He remembered me and gave me his card and said he would hire me back anytime I wanted a job.  They manage the Grand Lake resort in Rocky Mountain National Park, maybe next Summer. . .

They were doing road work on the Needles Highway so we drove the Iron Mountain Scenic Road.  I drove so didn't get many pictures but got this one through the tunnel you get a view of Mt. Rushmore

The Pigtail bridges are cool

Drove past Sylvan Lake one of my favorite spots here

Drove the Wildlife Loop to get to Wind Cave, didn't expect to see many Buffalo because they had been rounded up but not let out yet.  But ended up seeing quite a few.

Tucson sees his first Buffalo, he stayed pretty quiet.

End the day with a nice tour of Wind Cave and spend the night at the Park
