We start out the week with the Winterhaven Festival of Lights. Not to be confused with our RV Park - it is a neighborhood downtown where 98% of the residents decorate for Christmas. It is several blocks and the streets are closed off in the evening so you can walk or ride a trolley through.
It is sponsored though not funded by the local electric company
Some kids never grow up!
1st time here for our friends Cliff and Marcia
and they get into the spirit right away!
One of the Motion lights - lights flashed to tune from Frozen
Houses wrapped as gifts and a mail box to send your letters to Santa
Well who doesn't??
The Grinch of course!
But the people in Whoville still celebrate
Tucson is a biking town so of course there was a sleigh of bikes
and who doesn't want to live in a pink igloo!
Gary is managing to hobble along pretty good
a corner lot was filled with every imaginable animal in lights
We were on our way out when we spotted this tree down a cul-de-sac and walked down to check it out. A great way to spend the evening. It was quite chilly and very windy so it kept the crowds down.
We always feel blessed - so time to give back. I signed us and our friends Cliff and Marcia up to feed the homeless at Gospel Rescue Mission.
It is at their facility that used to be a Ramada Inn
a 1/2 hour orientation
and then down to serve. Cliff and Marcia were in the lower section
a couple of pups got to eat too
Gary and I directed traffic to the handicap accessible room and
directed meals coming out of the kitchen. Turkey, Dressing, Cranberry Sauce, Mashed Potatoes, vegetables, roll and pie. At one point a little girl maybe 2 or 3 came running out and ran up to me hands outstretched and covered in mashed potatoes. I got a big hug and a ring of potatoes around my legs.
They did a wonderful job and everyone was in great spirits. They even fed us!
The next day Gary had a doctor's appt at the VA. I tagged along and walked
Tucson on the 1.5 mile loop
After an hour I dropped Tucson back in the truck and went to pick up Gary - turned out he needed to get more blood work and a chest x-ray so we had another hour wait - think that's where I picked up my sinus infection and sore throat that appeared a couple days later.
Finished off the week with a wonderful dinner at El Berraco with our
friends Judy and Hughes.
Didn't get any pictures inside so I got these off their facebook page
The boys shared a whole Red Snapper - theirs was filleted with
Fried chunks on the side and did have the head attached.
I had the seafood Tostado with Tuna, Salmon, Scallops and Shrimp
and Judy had a Tuna Tataki
Delicious and so great to get together
