St. Augustine, FL - Week 7

I start out the week with a little.
After 3 years full-time in the RV, it was time for a change.

Gary and out friend Rob, finally got the new LED lights installed in the Pantry, I can now see what I have in there!

Gary has been wanting to see the Cargo ship  that capsized and caught fire back
in 2019 at Jekyll Island.  It is supposed to be sunny and 60's there
so we head out for a day trip.

 Over the Bridge in Jacksonville.

Leaving Florida

and entering Georgia

Almost there . . .

We drive down the road to Clam Creek

We couldn't see much for there and it looks like a blustery 50 degree day so we had over to Driftwood Beach where we might be more protected and able to see the ship.  There it is in the distance and we are lucky that the tide is going out.

The Cargo ship is owned by Hyundai motor's ocean freight logistics company, It capsized and caught fire off the coast of Georgia in September 2019.

The cargo ship was carrying about 4,300  Kia, Chevrolet, GMC, GM, Mercedes-Benz, and Ram vehicles it has a capacity for 6,933.
All 24 crew members were rescued.

The 656' Golden Ray is being sawed into eight pieces and removed segment-by-segment.  We had seen on the news yesterday that they had cut off a section and placed it on a barge and it would be heading on in a few days.  Unfortunately it must be stored somewhere else because we can't see it.

Heading back we come across this Horseshoe Crab - a good sized one.

Flocks of Pelicans and Seagulls are more interested in this fishing boat than the capsized ship

and Tucson is just happy to be here.

Wish we had had a clearer day to get better pictures but maybe we can make it back before they finish.

We finish the week with a walk at Treaty Park

Hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner!

St. Augustine, FL - Week 6

We start the week at the Drive in Church service

Tucson gets another walk at Princess Place Preserve

This time we try a different trail

We also try a new Park closer to home

But the best day is when we join our friends for another ride on the Bikes.
We start out at Crescent Beach at Noon - we had hoped the fog would have lifted by now but it is still pretty dense at the beach

We continue on heading towards Daytona Beach

We stop in Flagler Beach for lunch at Tortugas

What's Santa up to down there?

Looks like he's going surfing

and he slowly disappears into the fog.

After lunch, we head to Bulow Plantation State Park
to see the Sugar Plantation Ruins.   It's about a 1 mile ride down an old dirt road.  We encounter a couple horseback riders coming the other way.

It's a short hike from the Parking Lot

To the Plantation.  Developed in 1821, from 1823 to 1836, it was the largest sugar plantation in East Florida until it was burned down by the Seminole Indians during the 2nd Seminole War.

Next we head to see the Fairchild Oak, about 4 miles down the road.

It is humongous!  About 2,000 years old it is named after Botanist David Fairchild

Our friend, Catherine is a Tree Hugger

We head over to Ormond Beach to the Harley Davidson Store so Rick and pick up parts of one of  his bikes

We make it in 5 minutes before they close.
Just enough time to drool over some Trikes.

We stop for some Ice Cream across the way

Another great week
