Grand Canyon

Tucson is ready to be on the road

Check - Gary is still there

Starting to look more like Arizona

There is a window of opportunity to scoot up to the Grand Canyon this morning
The first overlook is at an Indian Craft sale area

Pretty Impressive - that's the Colorado River.

Good think it's a little chilly this morning
Would be awesome to do a rafting trip through there some day.  Another addition to my bucket list.
 Living on the edge!
On our way up the Park entrance, Gary spotted this Elk just off the side of the road.

Made it just as the snow is starting again.

I didn't know that in 1956 a TWA and a United Airlines plane collided over the Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon is truly amazing and indescribably beautiful.  It looks like a movie backdrop - it doesn't even look real.
The clouds parted just in time for the sunrise
 Gary is impressed

Well if we're going to make our 300 miles today we regretfully have to leave.  Gary asked if we'd be going through Flagstaff.  I commented if it's raining here - it's snowing in Flagstaff.

Sure enough!

The there's that downhill thing
 No snow below!

Uh oh!  Phoenix is on fire
I had originally applied for a job with the Post Office in Phoenix but after driving the 12 lane highway I decided against it.
Decided to pull over at the Escapee's Park in Casa Grande for the night and head into Tucson in the morning.  A crop duster was spraying the alfalfa fields across the road.

  1. We spent a week at the canyon last year. It is amazing! We'd like to go back when we can go down into the canyon.
