We travel in rain
and get to Brushy Creek COE in the rain
The campground is supposed to be sold out for the weekend but there ends up being several vacant sites- some of them prime waterfront.
We head into the Town of Jefferson and do a walk about
They even have a Five and Dime
Where else could you find this combo of fun?
I want one. Used to have a 1971 VW Pop up should have painted it like this!
Henry's Five and Dime is chock full of stuff, no longer 5 or 10 cents though. Tucson was happy, he loves to go shopping.
Being so close to Louisiana, some of the buildings have a New Orleans flair to them
We decide to tour the Historical Museum located in the Old Courthouse
This is chock full of stuff, from the Basement
to the first floor which used to house the Post Office
Second Floor features art work and furniture
as well as the Jail. Gary gets a little time out.
and finally the third floor.
The Museum entry also includes the Model Train in separate building.
It is quite the extensive model train layout
On our way home, we saw a boardwalk through a Bayou and decided to head back into town to try and find it.
We start at the Visitor's Center
Tucson hangs with Big Foot
and is upset he can't help pull the stagecoach
We walk the trail here. It was a turn around for paddle wheelers in the day.
a nice paved trail through the woods
with historical artifacts
and a working beehive
an old train trestle
I think I see the boardwalk on the other side of the overpass
Looks like we aren't going to be able to walk it, neither of us brought waders
This is the Turn Basin
Looks like Jet Skis like it too
Should have stopped for gas on the way home
and Cupcakes! You can eat upstairs.
It's a fun little town!
Easter Sunday we lay low . Didn't have Corned Beef and Cabbage on St. Paddy's day so did it up for Easter Dinner
and walked it off around the campground
and watched a group of Loons
Nice stay. Tomorrow we head to Poverty Point Reservoir State Park in Louisiana.
