Guilford Lake - Jim's Birthday

It is Jim's 80th birthday and he wanted to see a little league game but the kids are finished for the season so we head to Akron to do a minor league game.

We start out at the Akron Museum of Modern Art with Jean, Jim and Marsha.

The Ice Cream cone is made of tire rubber - Akron was known for the Rubber Industry.
 French fries for vegetable haters.

This is made all from aluminum liquor bottle caps.

They were setting up for a wedding in the lobby

Outside it was a beautiful day.
Jim's Son met us and we went for his Birthday dinner at Bricco's

Great company and great food

I tried my hand at water color and painted the Barn on the Farm for Jim.
It was our view from the back window of the RV

Time for the game!

Our seats were in the sun so we relocated to shady seats in hopes that no one will kick us out.

I spotted this dish of ice cream that a young couple was scarfing down.  We heard it had around 10 scoops of ice cream.

We left before the finish of the game - it was slow going.  The score was 2-1 Akron when we left - final score was 4-1

Guilford Lake - TIMBER!

Jean and Jim's neighbor are having a tree removed on the property line today.

It is right next to the fence and one of their sheds.  We came over to help move the patio furniture and cover the hot tub.

The guys get primo seating out front
Jean and her neighbor consult on the progress

Years ago the owner tied together two branches with wire cable
It has grown into the tree
Gary supervises out back
It slowly come down limb by limb
Looks like it might have come down on it's own in the next big storm.
 That's a big saw

Almost done

We stack the wood behind their Garage

We took some smaller pieces to the Farm the rest went quickly after a free wood sign was put up.   There were several huge chunks of the trunk left in the neighbor's driveway.  Jean was concerned the people who took the rest would not come back for them but a week later they were gone too.

The patio put back together!  It's a lot sunnier!

Elmore Visit - Schedel Arboretum and Gardens

Dan and Earlene take us to a hidden gem in Elmore, the Schedel Arboretum and Gardens.
The brick manor house was built in 1888.  In 1931 Mr. Stiefler offered to rent the newlywed Joe and Marie Schedel the maid’s quarters in the manor house.  After Fred Stiefler moved to Beverly Hills, California, the Schedels signed a 99 year lease for the property.  They began to design and landscape with rare trees and shrubs, digging the lakes and raising waterfowl.

The Bonsai Shelter.  Over 120 specimens the oldest having been started in 1949

A walk down to the Japanese Gardens

Dan and Earlene got married at this spot
 Swans in the Lake

 and lots of water lilies
 The tropical garden

and back up to the top - Dan built these pedestal planters when he volunteered here.
 A lovely view back down

What a beautiful place!
