We leave Alexandria and head to our next destination - Brainerd, MN where I found a Boondockers Welcome spot for the weekend.
Our spot is at a home on Lake Placid. I had seen a review about all the Trump Flags but the reviewer said politics never came up. Happy that they didn't while we were there too. They were very friendly and even brought us a plate of cookies.
A nice spot on the grass between the road and their garage with 30 amp service. Water was available but too far for us to reach with our drinking water hose so we will try to make it the 4 nights with what we have.
Woke up one morning with a lot of dew on the ground and these Tulip Webs.
We can walk down the road to a dead end at the lake.
We try to go for a hike one day on a portion
of the Paul Bunyan State Trail
Looks like even BigFoot has a political opinion
After our 4 nights we head up to our reservation at Leech Lake Recreation Area, about 80 miles north. Once again it is a nice US Army Corp of Engineers Park
Campground moorings and a couple of boat ramps
but it is 2 miles to the open water
No fishermen at the cleaning station so no fish for us. We can still grill pork chops and chicken breasts.
Here for 10 nights we we get our bkes down and go for a spin.
It has been hot and muggy. I thought a campground in Leech Lake Recreation area would have a swimming beech - but no. I locate one about 22 miles away at Mabel Lake at a State Forest campground.
Not knowing what to expect, we find a nice picnic area
with a small sandy beach and no one else but us.
Tucson wastes no time getting in.
I join him. The water is very clear and there is a clean sandy bottom
Gary even joins us
Tucson always keep a watchful eye.
Even the natives seem friendly
A peaceful way to spend the afternoon.
Will definitely come back here if it gets hot again.
