Trip West - Moonshine Creek - The Move

Hurricane Fred is passing through and it rained all day.
Moonshine creek is rushing

We work the 4-8 shift.  Only one camper left to come in.  Another camper comes into office to say it is his friend coming and could I move them to the site they just moved from.  He says his friend would have a lot of trouble getting into the site we assigned.  I checked and both sites were the same size and available for the same dates so I told him I would  move them.   Meanwhile the friends are not here and it is less than an hour to closing.  I call them and they say they are 30 minutes away.  A short time later Gary comes into the office to say the incoming campers are lost and he is going to take the truck to find them and escort them in.  They arrive safe and sound and we close up.

That night we  get constant alerts on our phones about the Pigeon River and if you are downstream to move to higher ground immediately.  I have no idea where that is.  We survive the night and it is still raining.  Campers across from us knock on our door and ask if I know if they can stay another night.  The office doesn't open until 10, so I go down and check.  Both their sites are available so I say yes, they just need to go to the office when they open. We do some projects inside and have a late lunch before our shift at 4:00

I see the owner (wife) at our site with the golf cart.  We invite her in thinking maybe she was going to thank us for helping the campers or maybe to take the night off because of the storm and no expected arrivals.  We were both stunned when she told us we were not working out and we were not a good fit.  We needed to leave the next day.  A complete shock as the week before she had said how happy she was was with our work and she did not have to worry when she and her husband went to California for a week because we were there.  Leaves us in the lurch finding a place in high season without reservations and I have an appointment with an endodontist for a root canal.

We spend the rest of the day and night packing up in the rain.  We head out the next day to Maggie Valley, Gary has a classmate from Corinth who is staying at a park there.  We head there in hopes they have a site for us.  The office doesn't open until 10 so we park at the rest area just up the road.

We arrive at the new campground

They were able to fit us in for month!  An nice size site with a tree.  Kinda nice to be in sunshine than the dark woods.

We can even site outside and have breakfast

We are invited to a social gathering

and a nice Creek for Tucson to go swimming in

Junalaska Lake is 10 minutes away

and there is a nice Golf Course there

The Seasonal Sites across from the Tent Sites and Jonathan Creek are especially nice.  We put our names on a waitlist.

So happy we were let go.  Think we'll stay retired this time!
