Summer 2026 - Waynesville NC Week 1

The Mountains are calling

Smokey Mountains that is

Small site close to bathrooms and dumpster but at least is has shade

A foggy morning walk around Lake Junaluska


Swans aren't in a hurry this morning

Pedestrian bridge is fogged in

First time I've seen a Green Heron here 

One lane bridge for vehicle traffic 



Fog is clearing on the final stretch


The roses are still blooming


Always a stairmaster!

Made it the 2 miles


Next short walk/hike was atn
 the Community College.

Starts by the Grist Mill



It meanders by the disc golf course and through gardens.




A short stint along the road

We get to the Moon Tree.  Grown from seeds carried into lunar orbit aboard the Apollo 14 mission in 1971 (by astronaut  Stuart Roosa.  This Sycamore was Planted on the HCC campus in 1976. 


The Artemis Moon Tree a Sweetgum was Grown from a seed that spent 25 days in space, traveling more than 1.4 million miles on the Artemis I flight around the Moon.  It was planted here in 2025.
