Summer 2026 - Waynesville, NC Week 2

Gary and firend Gary are going on a 5.5.mile hike on the Cataloochee Divide and asked if I wanted to join.  I haven't done a real hike per se this Summer so I figured just over 5 miles isn't a bad start.

A mile or so up the they are building a house up against the national park boundary.

Enjoy the view while it's still there.

The fog is still settled in the valley.

About a mile or so up they're buildingn a 3 story hoihouse.   Hear they bought 2 lots (@$300K each)

Continue down the trail

Getting up in elevation

Still headed the right way!

Been pretty dry here so not many mushrooms.  This one is pretty though.

Looks like we've reached the Taylor Turnaround

Time for a rest and snack

The view has gotten overgrown.

We head back down

The view has cleared

Saw this piece of marble, but didn't want to take if for granite. . . bad pun intended

Cool  looking fungus.  Google lens says it's chicken of the woods and yes it tastes like chicken when cooked for 10 mins.

Took a break to wait for the guys to catch up.

The end!

Remembered to set my watch for the return shortly after starting back so figure it was 4.25 miles each way or 8.5 miles round trip..

I should've known to add 25% onto to distance I was told!

Ended the week with a rainbow!
