A group from the Campground gets together for a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad
Gary's friends from Corinth who helped get us into the Campground
and We're off!
We are on the trip that goes through the Nantahala Gorge. The historic trellis bridge Fontana Trestle takes you across Fontana Lake and into the beautiful Nantahala Gorge.
It is a very long train and this turn is the only one where we can see the whole train, we are in the last car.
When the area was flooded for the Reservoir, if you had a home there you could put a houseboat over the site.
The train travels through the countryside
Though I think the people in the Town are not thrilled with it coming through. I'm guessing everyone owns a power washer.
The end of the line, we stop for an hour to eat lunch and if you want you can walk a half mile to the Rafting /Outdoor Center.
The stop is along the Tuckasegee River
It was as short walk up to a small waterfall
at a stop we see this dime on the ground below. A message from Mom? I zoomed in and saw it was dated 1988, the same year the scenic railroad was started.
Almost back to Bryson City
A group shot
We stop at the Boxcar Cafe for a bite to eat before heading home
Steel Magnolias was playing the HART Theater so a group of ladies from the Campground do an excursion to see it.
It was in the smaller more intimate Theatre
Wayne from the Campground came to dig out the old tree trunk at the end of our lot.
Much better
We really like the campground, it is more like a small town neighborhood.
When one of the Residents puts out a notice
The neighborhood comes together
A fun week!
