Trip South - Denver - Georgetown Loop Railroad

For today's adventure, Gary's daughter and grandson
take us to Georgetown to ride the Loop Train, a 3 ft narrow gauge railroad running  between Georgetown and Silver Plume

A beautiful day for a train ride.  Here comes our train.

We get to the loading dock

We leave the station behind

We tool along, passing through some beautiful scenery

Sometimes up close and personal

Just enjoying the views

It follows Clear Creek for a stretch

We arrive at Silver Plume

Then it's time to board for the return trip.  Here comes our engine to switch directions

Guess we're all set

We blow off a little steam

pass a replica of an old mining campsite

Almost back to the station - don't look down

What a great ride.  On the way home we stop by the Peak to Plains trail and check out the Creek.

Trip South - Denver - Buffalo Bill Museum

Gary's daughter, Donna and grandson Eli take us to the Buffalo Bill Museum and gravesite.
It sits on top of  Lookout Mountain.  The views are spectacular!

He was born in 1846.  Cody left home at eleven years old to herd cattle and work as a driver on a wagon train, crossing the Great Plains several times.  Buffalo Bill’s show business career began in 1872 in Chicago; he was twenty-six.  Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show used real cow-boys and cow-girls, recruited from ranches in the West.

Cody treated his former foes, the Indians with great respect and dignity, giving them an opportunity to leave the reservation and represent their culture when many were trying to destroy it.

What a concept - equal pay for equal work.  100 years after his death and we still aren't there.

Lots of interesting artifacts including an umbrella handle carved from his favorite horse's leg bone after this death

We noticed a distinct resemblance between Buffalo Bill

and Gary's grandson Eli

Buffalo Bill is buried up on the Hill.  It was his choice that he be buried on Lookout Mountain overlooking Denver and the Plains.with spectacular views of where he had spent the happiest times of his life.

a very interesting experience.  Then lunch in Golden.

Crater of Diamonds to Denver, CO

We leave Arkansas

I had planned on staying over at a Boondockers Welcome we stayed at 3 years
ago outside of Oklahoma City, but they were full

I scrambled and found an Army Corp of Engineers Park just a couple hours further away

Worth the extra drive, and it will make the next leg shorter.

Nice site backing up to Canton Lake.

Not a bad place to relax

Until a storm rolls in.  Glad we didn't get into the spot outside of Oklahoma City as they are getting 60+ mph winds and thunderstorms.

Today looks like a good day to take off

We get into Kansas

Which seems to have more cows than people

We layover in Quinter, KS for the night at a Boondockers Welcome, not far from Colorado

Must be close now

We're not in Kansas anymore!

We made it!

We make it to Prospect RV Park in Wheatridge, CO.  Will be here two weeks to visit Gary's daughter and family and our friend Judy.

Not much of a Park, but people are nice and it is
adjacent to a really nice park and the Greenway trail

A great place to ride a bike too
