We make it to Mississippi. Original plans were to stay over at Jeff Busby Park on the Natchez Trace. It is a long days drive and I'm not sure we will find a spot to fit in if it is busy, so I booked a spot on Boondockers Welcome just off the Trace not far from Jackson, MS. Plus there is a storm passing through this evening.
We have not driven this section of the Natchez Trace and I am disappointed that we can't start at the very beginning in Natchez, MS - next time!
The Ross R. Barnett Reservoir
The Cowles Mead Cemetery
A few mile from our Boondockers Welcome spot is a Cypress Swamp, so we stop and stretch our legs.
Tucson checks for Alligators
This area was hit by severe storms last week
We get to the Boondocker Welcome spot and it is not an easy spot to back into, on a narrow road with no shoulders and a narrow culvert at the driveway. Hopefully we can get out in the morning easier that we got in as storms are expected.
Some scary storms passed through but we survived. Some rain in the morning so we took advantage of the Washer and Driver available to catch up on laundry. Fortunately getting out was much easier.
A rainy day so we don't get to do many stops along the Trace, but we do pull into Jeff Busby to check it out. Glad we didn't continue on yesterday as the campground is quite full and it would have been difficult for us to get in a spot.
We do drive up to the highest spot on the Trace
We get off the Trace and head to our next stop Town Creek Campground -
another COE in West Point, MS
We're here!
Unbeknownst to me, the Site I booked as a pull thru is two sites together, we are lucky and no one else has booked the other site while we are here.
We are right on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway.
There is a barge loading stones onto the shore to protect the banks
That's a pile of rocks!
A very nice stay! Next stop Alabama!
