Trip South - Denver to NM

Last Day in Colorado.  Dinner out the night before with Gary's daughter and family.

Last Day, lunch with Gary's daughter.  Back to Sassafras in Golden.

We head South to New Mexico via 285

It is a beautiful drive

Tucson looks longingly at the snow

 

 

Think we are getting out ahead of the snow

 

The colors are changing to gold

  

We go through Fairplay

and Buena Vista

 We make it to New Mexico. Had planned on stopping at Alamosa, CO but it was still early.

 

We arrive at our destination, 100 miles further than planned

Trip South - Nederland, CO

 Gary's daughter and her husband have gone to Steamboat Springs for the weekend, so we head over to Nederland to visit our friend Judy.  It had snowed yesterday on the mountains.

 It's a beautiful ride through Boulder Canyon

 We reach Nederland and drive up past the Reservoir

 

 They had a big fire here in 2016 - the 266-acre Cold Spring Fire,  Judy's house was a staging area for the fire fighters and fortunately was not affected, but the surrounding area was devastated.  Young aspen are making a comeback

Lunch at Neds

Then off to Mud Lake for a hike

It' beautiful with the Fall foliage and snow capped mountains in the background

We do the 1 mile loop around the Lake and then find someone to take a group photo.

 

Back to the beginning

We take a short drive to check out the Fall Foliage

Tucson enjoys it

Trip South - Denver Museum of Natural History

 Gary's daughter is a member so she takes us to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science

 

 

A large gem collection

 and a big hunk of gold

 

 
 and interesting exhibit of carvings by a Russian carved entirely out of gemstones

The animal exhibits are impressive

 

 

An Egyptian Mummy exhibit

There was a whole dinosaur section we didn't even get to see
