We decide to hike the Winner Creek Trail through the Rain Forest to a Gorge and then a Hand Tram across the Gorge. It is a 2.5 mile hike one way from the resort but we are a mile from there so we take the extension trail.
Looks like it could be dark and boogerish in there.
We get to the Alyeska Resort and are duly impressed.
I'm not sure I'd like to look out the window at this before my 1st cup of coffee.
Some of the ski trails behind the resort
and our trail head
It's not long before Tucson finds a watering hole
A lot of the trail has boardwalks or wooden planks over the more marshy areas
The forest is mostly spruce and hemlock and they are quite tall.
and the lush rain forest bottom.
A glimpse of the Creek
The trail is part of the Iditarod trail
A little detour
Step lightly
Tucson leads the way
The creek is running pretty good
Helicopters fly overhead - I'll be on one of them tomorrow!
Just a little further
And we reach the bridge over the river and gorge
and in another 2/10 of a mile the Hand Tram
I give it a whirl.
Tucson watches
He can't ride because the grates are too big for his paws
Gary gives it a shot too
Some itty bitty mushrooms on the alpine moss
The kids going the other way were giggling and asked if we say the "butt" tree.
Back to the main trailhead and the Trams are going up and down the mountain
Time for refreshments- Tucson has water
We're ready for a cold one and some dinner. Gary has the Blue Moon
I opt for the Gluten Free IPA. Usually don't care for IPA's but this one was good.
Bar food dinner - Wings and Super Nachos
As we finished I looked up at the base of the ski hill and saw this bear watching us. We yelled Bear! Bear! as a bicyclist was coming across the bike path straight towards it. The bicyclist veered but the dog that was with him went in hot pursuit.
Another great day! Can't wait for the Helicopter ride tomorrow!
