I wanted to show Gary the Blue Mesa Reservoir
The GPS from Black Canyon of the Gunnison says to take US 50 forty miles to the Big Blue Hole
Looks like we're here.
The only campground open this time of year is the Elk Creek Campground. It has electric but nothing else
We gather enough wood to have a small campfire.
Just one night as there is nothing much open. We were trying to decide what route to take from here to Steamboat. I thought we might pass through Gunnison and continue on 50 to 24 but it requires going through Monarch Pass at 11.312 feet and rain is coming in tonight which means snow up there.
Another route is back tracking a bit and taking route 92 to 133, but we are told it is another steep and winding road with many switchbacks. I think Gary's had enough of that so we opt to go all the way back to Montrose and take US 50 up to 70.
It is still winding.
As we are leaving Montrose, we happen upon this idiot who is doing 80 mph with a border collie unrestrained in the back of the truck, running back and forth. I zoomed in and got the license plate number and called 911. If he had to slam on the brakes or if someone hit him, that dog would go flying and not survive. If it's not safe enough for your two year old it's not safe enough for your dog. \
We see a sign for Colorado National Monument and decide as long as we are this close we might as well go see what it is about - who knows if we'll pass by this way again.
