Yellowstone Day 1

Head towards Yellowstone which is only 9 miles away.  I am so sorry I was too slow to get a picture of the rental RV that had tried to do a K Turn and ended up with it's rear wheels over the edge where there was a steep drop and no shoulder. Fortunately they did not block the entire road, just one side.

We're here!  It's 8:15 and we hope there is still a campsite somewhere.  Yesterday some of them filled up by 7:00 a.m. and others by 10:30.
Looks like we'll try Lewis Lake, Bridge Bay, Norris or Mammoth
Lewis Lake says nothing over 22', Bridge Bay is Full when we go by.
 The scenery is stunning

I'm starting to get concerned as it will be after 10 by the time we get to the next campground on the list so I suggest we go to Fishing Bridge and bite the bullet for a Site at the RV Park.

We get there and there are lines inside.  When I finally get to someone they say they are full.  I ask if they have any suggestions.  Gary meanwhile was on another line and the lady helping him says she might have something.  Finally, after much finagling, they get us a spot for 2 nights ($60 night water and electric only)  We are very grateful.

They are packed in but we are just happy to be here.

We grab a quick lunch and had out to do one of the loops checking out the Sulpher Caldron, Mud Volcano, Upper Falls at Artists Point and finally Old Faithful.

The Sulpher Caldron

Magma is moving and pushing underground forcing the Hill across the way to rise.  This is the Sour Creek Dome 10 miles long by 6 miles wide.

We follow Yellowstone River

and soon run into a herd crossing the road towards the river

Why did the Bison cross the River?

Because they can!

I always have to go to any place named Artists Point

It is part of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

The Lower Falls are beautiful

Mommy when do I get to see something?

The Mud Volcano

A view of the Upper Falls

and a Rainbow

It's getting late so we head to see Old Faithful

Not much going on.  We ask someone if they know when it will go off.  They say 1.25 hours.  We set ourselves down and wait.
Finally things start to steam up
and off it goes!

 Last stop of the day

Wow!  What a spectacular day!  Can't wait to see more tomorrow
