We do the morning walk with Tucson and decide to see where this trail leads
The Intracoastal Waterway
Leslie invites me to go Kayaking. We had them loaded on the truck but
then it wouldn't start. So Leslie is not one to be deterred. She got
them loaded on the Golf Cart!
and we're off!
We went to a small park with a beach on the Intracoastal Waterway
Got them unloaded
and we were off!
I hadn't been on a paddle board since Whitefish Montana. The water was a little choppy here so I kneeled.
My tour guide Leslie led the way. Wish I had a waterproof camera as a dolphin swam by at one point. The water got mirror calm.
and I was able to stand up an paddle the remainder of the time. We were out for about an hour and a half.
The boys had followed us over so we had board boys to load them back up on the Golf cart for us. We went back to their house for lunch and then headed back to the Park.
I had wanted to do at least one of the trails at the Park - the most important one was the Flytrap Trail. We [pick up the Campground Trail just outside the camping area.
and connect to the Swamp Trail
To the Flytrap Trail
We come to the first boardwalk, for a bog the area is pretty dry
Was surprised to see these beautiful Pitcher Plants as they are critically endangered.
I was really hoping to see some Venus Fly Traps but didn't see any along the trail. We ran into a woman who asked if we'd seen any and I said no. She told us where in the area to drive to see them but is our last day so that wouldn't be possible. When we got back to the start of the trail I check the info board and saw the picture of the Venus flytrap and was surprised to see it with a dime for size comparison. I decided to go back to were we saw the pitcher plants and look again. As we approached the lady we had seen earlier was there and flagged me over saying she had found some.
The red flowers are sundew plants - also carnivorous. You can see the Traps of the Venus Flytraps
Was exciting to find them!
There were these beautiful blue flowers - not idea what they are
and an interesting Pine flower. I remember seeing a sign saying there was a pine that flowered only once in while but can't remember the name
Our stay is done - tomorrow we head to Kinston, NC
