Trip North - Myrtle Beach - Brookgreen Gardens

We passed the Brookgreen Gardens coming into Myrtle Beach and I really wanted to see them so we went back to visit.

A little pricey but entry is good for 7 days.
We probably won't be back so we see as much as we can.

Brookgreen Gardens is mainly a sculpture garden.  It's 9,100-acres includes several themed gardens featuring American figurative sculptures, a Lowcountry Zoo, and trails through the nature reserves on the property.  It was founded by Archer Milton Huntington, stepson of railroad magnate Collis Potter Huntington, and Anna Hyatt Huntington, his wife, to feature her sculptures by Anna and those of her sister together with other American sculptors

Spring is in the air

Diana of the Chase Pool

Live Oak Allee

A perfect Camelia Flower

Dyonisus, Greek God of wine

Actaeon - who had the misfortune of coming upon the goddess Diana naked at her bath and as a result was transformed into a stag and torn to pieces by his own dogs.

Brown Sculpture Court

Bear sculpture by Anna Hyatt Huntington.  The Atalaya Castle is just across the way at Huntington Beach State Park.

Laura Gardin Fraser's 1954 "Pegasus"

Gary took a break while I went into yet another Sculpture Gallery
I asked the gentleman in this Gallery how many sculptures were there in the Gardens.  Approximately 2,500 including those in the indoor galleries!

Another Diana sculpture

Fountain of the Muses.

Of the 8 figures, 5 represent the branches of the fine arts,  Each artist carries the symbol of his Muse.  The Poet - a blue bird; the Architect - a new formed column; the Musician his old instrument; the Sculptor - a horse; the Painter - his flowers.

They have been drinking the holy water from the Godess Aganippe's well. Famous for helping all artists to get the right spirit to work and create. Here they are rushing home filled with enthusiasm-for their new ideas.

Lots of Foxglove around

One of my favorite galleries was the Rainey Sculpture Pavilion, itwas full of bird wood carvings

What a beautiful place.  Highly recommend if you pass near Myrtle Beach.
We didn't even see the Zoo or  or Low Country museum or nature trails.
