We had out early to Big Bend
We get to the entrance gate just as it is opening. The Ranger tells us the campground was sold out last night but to head there right away and check for people leaving. One of the three campgrounds is closed and one of the other's is on a road restricted to vehicles under 24'
Half way there
I hope there is light at the end of the tunnel
We head straight to the campground and as we are surveying the map on the board for first come first served sites, a couple on bikes stops to tell us they are leaving but not until 11 a.m. but we can put our pay-stub on the site now.
And a nice site it is. Across from the bathrooms, easy in and plenty big.
We quickly get settled in and head right out again
First stop is the Hot Springs
Yes, I am making poor Gary takes his 4WD truck on a 4WD dirt road
3 miles later we arrive in one piece
The old general store
It's getting hot so we just take the trail to the Hot Springs.
Holiday weekend and it is quite busy.
The Yuccas are in bloom - one of those flowering heads can weigh up to 75lbs!
On to our next adventure of the day
Back through the tunnel
To Boquillas Canyon
A nice view of the River
and a horse grazing on the other side
The mexicans cross over the river and leave trinkets for sale. It is illegal to purchase them and they can be seized as contraband. There is also a "singing Mexican" here. He stands in the shade of a band of trees and sings for money.
It looks like we are nearing the end.
Should have grabbed the kayaks
Maybe this guy will run back and get them for us.
A great first day and now a sunset to top it off
