Mississippi

We head out of New Orleans and cross a long bridge - not the Pontchartrain Bridge which is 23 miles long - but long enough at 3 miles

Soon we are in Mississippi (I love to type that)
Soon we find long white beaches in Christian Pass and pull over to let Tucson run to his hearts content
Originally I planned on pulling over here for the night but it is too early and too  close to the road as the RV sways whenever a car goes by

The drive along the coast is interesting

and we end up in Biloxi
We decide to pull over and tour the Jefferson Davis Home

It is a humble structure compared to the modern Mansions we passed along the coast.

It took a hit from Katrina

Amazingly these floor to ceiling windows survived
A small out building can be rented for $250 a night.  Not bad considering an RV site in the French Quarter goes for $125.

The great hall currently houses some of the furniture from the daughter's bedroom that is closed  because the ceiling recently caved in.

There are four rooms off the main hall.  A dining room, parlor and two bedrooms

The ceilings were hand painted by artists in the same method as the Sistine Chapel.  It is all flat the illusion of depth in the fruit and face  Is Trompe L'Oeil
The door to Winnies bedroom is painted to look like Oak so he could have the prestige of having oaks doors without the cost and maintenance

The crown moldings are just paint
The back porch gives access to two other bedrooms, the kitchen and dining room

A few to the gardens in back

All that touring built up an appetite

Best stew ever - Red Shrimp, andouille sausage and potatoes

We hoped to squeek in a site at the Gulf Islands National Seashore but being Friday they were full.  We continue on to Alabama
and pull into the Visitor's center for the night
