We have been trying to get a spot near St. Augustine to visit our friends Jean and Jim but it is Spring Break and nothing is available. The closest I can find is a National Forest campground in the Ocala National Forest about 40 minutes away.
It was Friday and I wanted to arrive early we got there early afternoon. I had checked the website and the majority of sites are first come first served and they all showed as available. Good thing we got here when we did as we got one of the two remaining sites. A half hour later the 2nd site was gone.
There is even a 2 mile loop trail
It is quite tropical
Midway there is a boardwalk
Hawkeye Gary spotted this hawk
There is also a large natural spring pool which is a constant 72 degrees
It has
been said that Salt Springs is the legendary "Fountain of Youth". . .
Scientists have discovered that aging can be slowed by certain minerals
and trace elements that are available only in unrefined groundwater,
and the abundance and variety of helpful minerals in the water at Salt
Springs can be found nowhere else in the United States.
Cormorants sunbathing is not prohibited
Our friends Jean and Jim come to visit. I stepped in - 72 is not exactly warm but not frigid.
You do want to watch where you step though
At the end where they water comes up from underground you never know what you'll run into
Think we'll stay for a bit - $19 a night is a bargain and the park is beautiful. We will check out the hiking trails and look into kayaking possibilities
