We head towards St. Augustine to meet our friends Jean and Jim at Princess Place Preserve.
The property , 1500 acres, was purchased by Henry Cutting in 1886
and was inherited by his widow Angela Mills Cutting Worden. She later
married Boris Scherbatoff, an exiled Russian prince. Angela took on the
title of princess and it was then what was formerly named "Cherokee Grove"
came to be known as "Princess Place." The
original lodge, built by Henry Cutting, stills stands. It is Flagler
County's oldest intact structure. It is also home to Florida's very
first in-ground swimming pool.
Glad we didn't bring the 5th wheel
It's a beautiful property on Pellicer Creek and a fresh water marsh
The second floor existed solely for storing guests luggage. The hanging lanterns swing so they can be used where needed
One of the bedrooms
This was the uninvited guest's room. The only access to the 2nd floor was in a closet in this room so whoever stayed in this room could be disturbed at any hour
The dining room
the Kitchen
and the beautiful wrap around porch
The exterior is made from Tabby - made of equal parts lime, water, sand, oyster shells, and ash.
The Stables
The first in-ground pool fed by an artesian spring with a constant temperature of 72 degrees
One of the many majestic live oaks
a really nice place to spend the day with friends! We however missed the Eagles Nest which I hear had babies in it. Next time!
