On the road again - same to you buddy!
It is only 190 miles to our destination, so we arrive in Kentucky pretty quickly
Lunch time
Quite the rest area
While Gary enjoys his lunch (?)
I go check out the Mansion.
The main part of the house, a 2 story brick structure, was built in the 1860's.
In 1903 it was transformed to a Classic Revival Mansion and the front Portico was added. It was named Whitehaven. The Paducah Mayer bought it in 1908 and named it Bide a Wee and lived there until 1968. It opened in 1983 as
the Welcome Center.
It is closed to tours because of Covid, but I get
a few pictures through the windows.
The turnoff down through Land Between the Lakes
It's just around the bend!
It has 378 campsites. I tried to book online but all the reservable sites were booked. We arrived and were lucky to get a site through the weekend, apparently it is Halloween Weekend here.
Looking forward to exploring the next few days and also hooking up with a friend we made while volunteering for clean up down in the Panhandle after Hurricane Michael in Panama Beach in 2018
