Bodie State Historic Park

We made it to Lee Vining on the East side of Yosemite and have 1/2 a day left.  We decide to backtrack to Bodie State Historic Park
I neglected to tell Gary he would have to take his baby (F250 Super Duty) 3 miles down a dirt road.
We pass by a couple of large herds of sheep
No trouble sleeping in this trailer - plenty of sheep to count
Tucson either wanted to herd sheep or play with the sheep herding dogs
We arrive in one piece.  In it's Boom  days, the Population was almost 10,000.

Bodie has the most intact Stamp Mill in California. Gold was extracted from quartz and turned into bullion bars. They give tours but they had shut down for the season

What's this?
A bank vault.  Guess it held the wages for the miners.

Don't worry Mom - Dad didn't fall down the well!

Thought I'd drive into town but it wouldn't start

Bodie faded into a ghost town in the 1940s. In 1962 the small part of the
town that had survived a 1932 fire was turned into a State Historic Park and
National Historic Landmark. The remains of the town are preserved in a state of “arrested decay” .  The buildings exist as they did. and the interiors are maintained as they were when the last residents left, furnished and stocked with goods, providing a snapshot of the past.
.

The school.

The hotel.  More than 60 saloons and dance halls once lined the streets,

We just managed to squeak into the Museum.  The girl closed the door just as we got there.
A selfie

Everything left in the General Store
The Park Rangers house

Tucson wants to move here

A perfect ending to a perfect day
