Kings Canyon - General Grant Tree

We snagged a really good spot when we arrived on Sunday.  Next to the Bath house and no sites behind us or next to us
On my moring walks with Tucson, we would run into the same family of 4 or 5 deer.
A hiking trail to the Grant Tree started in the campground

If a tree falls in the forest . . .

There is the Fallen Monarch tree you can walk through

and the Gamlin Cabin built in 1872 by two brothers who held a timber claim on 160 acres in Grants Grove.  When the National Park was established in 1890 it became a Calvary store house when they patrolled the park until 1913.  Later it became the quarters of the first Park Ranger
And there he is

One of the world's largest living trees. President Coolidge proclaimed it the Nation's Christmas tree in 1926.   The General Grant tree is 2nd largest in volume after the General Sherman Tree, though not as  tall, the trunk is 5 feet larger in circumference.

Another tree along the trail - unnamed though I think it is big enough to deserve one.  Can you find Gary in the picture?
