We continue on the Burr Trail towards Bull Frog, UT on Lake Powell our intended destination for this evening.
Another must see according to Julie and Dan at the B&B is the Strike Valley overlook.
Sounds like a good idea to me. . .
The paved road changes to dirt at the Capitol Reef boundary
Peek a Boo Arch up ahead
Just saw the sign out of the corner of my eye as we were going by - this is the road to Strike Valley Overlook. The hike from the parking area is 6.5 miles round trip. If you can get there by the 4WD road the hike is only 1 mile
Looks like another Falling Rock Zone
So much for staying on the maintained roads
It's like traveling through another planet
Certainly don't want to meet another vehicle coming the other way
You really have to hug the walls at times
This was one of the 3 really hairy spots.
We finally reach our destination! My fear was that we would get to the end with no way to turn around!
Oops no dogs allowed - well we aren't going to leave him in the truck and there is no one else around so we bring him along - on a leash!
The trail starts out on red sand
White rocks ahead
from here the trail was a little hard to follow until you spotted the cairns
Looks like the overlook might be just over this crest.
and what a view it is!
Gary and Tucson find a spot to rest
There is a road below and we wonder where it goes - we'll have to ask when we get back.
A tailgate lunch when we get back to the truck
Have to say as nerve wracking as the drive in was - I LOVED it!
One last look at Peek-a-boo Arch
We get back out to the main road and find a shady spot for Gary to take a well deserved break.
