Escalante, UT - Burr Trail Switchbacks.

After our rest, we continue down the road

The scenery changes

and we arrive at the infamous switchbacks

It's one sharp bend after another.

Here's a video - so glad there was no one coming up the switchbacks while we were going down!
This is where the Burr Trail meets Notom Road that goes north to US24.  We turn south towards Bullfrog Basin
A view of the Waterpocket fold from the bottom, guess we know where that road we saw from the Strike Valley Overlooks goes now.
These rock formations were once Sand Dunes

We get as far as the Post Corral and I make the executive decision to turn around.  It's almost 3:00 and 35 miles to Bullfrog and 35 miles back to a campground we saw at the beginning of the Burr Trail.  The road is open and it's getting hot and I'm not sure what awaits us in Bullfrog, I just know it was supposed to get to 88 degrees there today and almost 100 degrees tomorrow.

So we turn around - back to Capitol Reef
and before long we are at the switchbacks going up

Got out of the truck and took a picture looking down.
The scenery is just as pretty going back

and we get to Deer Creek Campground just before 5 pm.  There are only 7 sites so I am a bit concerned that there will be a spot for us.
We get a primo spot right across from the bathroom

 Time for Happy Hour

Deer Creek is at the end of the road into the campground.  There are residences beyond here - only accessible by driving up the creek or walking the path Gary is standing on.  Tucson takes a well deserved dip.
 and a good run

Back at the campsite, Tucson steals some firewood
 and we set up camp

A Northern Flicker watches

Dinner and then a campfire before bed.

Another spectacular day!
