We got free entry with our campground stay to the Gettysburg Diorama and History Center as well as the Spirit of Gettysburg.
We start with the Spirit of Gettysburg that leads us through the history of the Battle
You walk through the Battle made with Wax Figures from the Wax Museum that closed. Notice the guy in bloody bandages - can you guess who it is? Hint - He is not a crook!
There are exhibits of guns and confederate flags from each of the States
Next we get to watch the battle play out on the Diorama
There are historic documents as well
Later that morning we head back to the Visitor Center to catch the Cyclorama
In the late 1880s, French artist Paul Philippoteaux created the Battle of Gettysburg Cyclorama painting
It is a breathtaking canvas measuring 377 feet around and 42
feet tall. It is longer than a football field and as tall as a four-story building. The oil painting, along with light and
sound effects, immerses you in Pickett’s Charge during
the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg.
It is amazing how they blended the 3 dimensional scenes in front of the painting to make them one.
