Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge - Chesser Boardwalk and Tower

Back on the Swamp Island Drive to do the Chesser Boardwalk and Tower

On the way we go by some Rangers who are capturing Flying Squirrels that are stealing the Red Cockaded Woodpeckers' homes

The original 3/4 mile wood boardwalk built in 1969 was destroyed in the 2011/12 Honey Prarie Fire.  This new one made of what looks to be recycled plastic should fare better.
Lots of these colorful green anole lizards around

The 40 foot  owls roost tower

It overlooks the Seagrove Lake and Chesser Prairie

View back to the boardwalk

What do you see Gary?

A pretty good size Alligator crossing the Lake

We also spot a Turtle below

I had hoped to see a Red Cockaded Woodpecker but had to settle for this Red Bellied one

We were luck enough to see a Raccoon - though the middle of the day - it seemed fine.

Or maybe that's a rabid evil laugh

 and then there were snakes

A brown water snake?

On the way back Gary managed to avoid this one in the middle of the road !

One last photo op - Gary teaching an alligator down-stay
