We left Okefenokee and head towards Savannah. Hoped to stop and visit but the closest reasonable park is Skidaway Island State Park and when I researched a few days ago, it was full. When we got within an hour and I logged on to check again and there was one site open for one night. I immediately booked it.
When we checked in I was told that site was cancelled that morning and only lasted 15 minutes before I booked it. Another God's Wink.
We manage to squeeze in one hike the morning we leave - the Big Ferry Trail to the Earthworks.
We get views of the Salt Marsh
and pass through Island Hammock to get to the Observation Tower
a nice boardwalk
But don't step off unless you want your toes nibbled on by Fiddler crabs
Nothing but this Tufted Titmouse
We'll check this out as it's getting close to happy hour
Oops looks like the revenuers put them out of business - note the axe marks in the metal.
Next is the Earthworks
These mounds were often built by slaves during the Civil War as part of the defense system against Union Troops.
