We leave Cumberland Gap and head to
Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio. About a 6 hour drive.
Last time through the Tunnel
Gary doesn't want to drive behind the Clampetts
Lots of road work along the way
Our first rest stop
Kentucky Artisan Center / Visitor Center
Good thing Gary directed me to the bathroom first - If I came this way I never would have made it!
By the time we were ready to head out it was 11;30 - figured we would have to stop in the next hour to eat so decided to eat a bit early here.
Vegetable Quiche, Corn Pudding, Zucchini and a biscuit. Gary had the Meatloaf with fingerling potatoes. Lunch for two under $16.00!
I took over driving for a while but made sure I turned it back over to Gary just before Cincinnati!
My feelings exactly!
Must be getting close the road is getting winding
Yep! We arrive just 10 minutes before the office closes so they give us a map, point out the walk in only section and send us on our way and tell us to come back in the morning to settle up
Sites have electric but no water and we dumped back at Cumberland Gap, so while Gary is filling tank I take Tucson for a walk down an adjoining trail. Looks like it got beaten up pretty good - most of the trees were down and cut up.
I went over to the wooden building which was a wildlife display and figured it was defunct -
until I spotted this hawk. The Owl was in hiding.
Tanks filled and time to find a site in the walk in section. Not many choices and none even close to level, but we settle on this one
and put boards under the back wheel.
We get settled in just in time for dinner. Later I take Tucson for his evening constitution walk.
We follow the signs for Rose Lake
I see something rosy through the trees
It is a nice little fishing lake
After Flat Florida, I am looking forward to some real hikes again tomorrow!
