Of course as we turn up the 7 mile road it starts to rain in earnest.
Of course as we turn up the 7 mile road it starts to rain in earnest.
Almost there and it is still raining
Get to the Visitor Center and the rain stops!
So up we go. It's only a .5 mile hike but it is all uphill 330' elevation gain. At 6,643 feet it is the highest point in the Smoky Mountains
The views are great
It seems like it keeps going and going especially after a year at sea level.
Then we get a glimpse
and we still get to go up
We made it!
You can still see pretty far considering the clouds
Gary is happy to sit for a spell
Time to head back down
The Appalachian Trail goes by here as well
There are those Smoky Mountains
A peak into the woods - but I can't see the Forest for the trees!
Downhill is much easier
A couple last views
Some people come here to celebrate new beginnings
and others to celebrate endings.
I came for the beauty
More adventures in the Smoky Mtns tomorrow!
