Trip West - Chatham NH - Last day

It's Sunday and Gary's friend Matt is home from his trucking route.  He takes us up to see his property up on the mountain in the woods.
We follow him up the logging road.
Half way there we leave the truck as the road gets narrow.  I sit in the bed of the truck with Rachel
Jackson and Reba ride with us.  Tucson and Ginger the puppy ride inside.

We reach the top.  Matt and Rachel got married up here 8 years ago and
Matt built this gazebo and alter for it.
The view is stunning
Gary doesn't look too happy that he was left at the Altar
A beautiful place to relax and have a conversation

When we got ready to leave we rounded up everyone but the puppy, Ginger.  We decided to head back down as far as our truck to see if she had made it down there.  She wasn't Gary and I headed back and Matt and Rachel went back up to see if she had gone back there.
We let Tucson out at the end of our road and let him lead the way
Happy ending - Ginger was waiting for them when they got back up top!

Trip West - Chatham , NH Diana's Bath

Today we go to hike Diana's Baths in North Conway.
We take Huricane Hill Road
Newly paved but still not taking the RV over

We make it to the trail
a nice walk through the woods in the White Forest
Tucson is very excited that he gets to come
It is just a .6 mile hike a series of small waterfalls

The waterfalls were once the location of an old sawmill operation
Tucson takes advantage of the Pools
We continue on up a level
 The boys take a break
While I check out one of the  Falls

The waterfalls were once the location of an old sawmill operation

Tucson takes one last dip
and back we go - it was a busy trail but worth it

We go home and visit with Rachel and Tucson snuggles in
Meanwhile Jackson makes himself comfy with Gary

Trip West - Chatham, NH - Hike 1

The rain has stopped looks like it will be a nice day
Tucson and I take our morning walk down the road - wait where is he?
Oh!  There he is!
The brook is babbling pretty good.
We decide to go do a hike at a trailhead we saw down the road.  We take Jackson along with us.
Tucson and Jackson check out the trail head.
There are remains of an old homestead
I am amazed that old artifacts still remain on the stove.
 We continue on
Gary is building up steam on the downhill
 Looks like water ahead
The boys take a dip
 heading back home
You can just make out the 1857 on the barn door.

Trip West - Maine to New Hampshire

We made it across the border to Maine.  I figure we should go the U.S. easternmost point - Eastport - but is on an Island so we head to the 2nd easternmost point - Lubec and the Quoddy Lighthouse.
Thank goodness Maine points out these hazards of driving!

After a few blocked views, we manage to find Lubec
and apparently are on the right track for the Lighthouse
and there she is

Looking out to the Quoddy Narrows

There is a Bald Eagle perched on the furthermost rock

We continue on - looks like it is low tide.  Passamaquoddy Bay is opposite Fundy Bay. Eastport overlooks the Old Sow Whirlpool, the largest tidal whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere but it is best 2 hours before high tide - next time

The Lubec Channel Lighthouse
That object in the distance is ringing a bell in my mind
Now I remember - the Penobscot Narrows Bridge that I crossed with the RV heading to Nova Scotia while Gary slept.

We had tried to get a spot in Acadia National Park at Schoodick Point figuring a rainy Wednesday there would be a spot - but someone was looking at the last spot while I was on the phone and took it.  Guess we were just not meant to go there.  We pull over in Northport for the night
On the road the next morning the weather is much nicer
and the trees are changing color.
We pull into Augusta to gas up as Diesel is $2.83 a gallon as opposed to $3.12 at our next destination.

We turn the corner to see this - hope our measuring the 5th Wheel at 12'7" was accurate as there is no alternative.

We made it to drive another day!
Time to stop for lunch.

The truck navigation takes us down some windy roads but
the colors were great
Gary pulled over in Norway, ME to catch a few ZZZ's
while I took Tucson for a stroll
He certainly picked the appropriate spot
After a roller coaster ride of back roads, we make it safe and sound
at Gary's friends in Chatham, NH
