Trip North - Maine - Acadia Jordan Pond

The plan this afternoon was to take the bikes to
Eagle Lake and do a 12 mile loop down to
Jordan Pond and have Popovers.   I stepped outside
and the temperature had dropped to 64 and the wind
was picking up.  Didn't want to get
Gary chilled as he is finally on the mend so
we opted just to drive over and walk the carriage trails.

We arrive about 4 pm and easily find parking
 an overview of the area
This path must have been beautiful when the roses were in bloom
The Jordan House where we will have the famous Popovers
A wildflower field in front of the pond.
View of the Bubble Mountains from the south end.
We start across one of the bridges on the Carriage Trail
Gary says he doesn't want to walk to far and I notice a trail that
heads towards the pond and we decide to walk that for awhile

A short ways down we encounter a wood plank boardwalk
It seems to wind endlessly through the woods
along the shoreline
Not knowing how long the hike around the pond is we decide
to turn around at the end of the boardwalk or at 4:30, whichever
comes first.
We encounter another group coming the other way and find out the loop is 3.5 miles long and after the boardwalk there is a scramble over rocks at the other end of the pond.  They said to count on 2 hours for the whole loop.  We've been walking about 1/2 hour and we aren't to the end yet
and it is 4:30, so we decide to turn around.

and back up to the Jordan House. Originally built as a farmhouse it became a restaurant in 1884.  In 1895, new owners added popovers, chicken, lobster stew and ice-cream to the menu in response to the appetites of wealthy travelers.  John D. Rockefeller Jr. bought it in 1928 and donated it to the National Park Service.
for Popovers and Blueberry Tea!
Gary heads to the gift shop and I head up to the upper level
for a view of the pond.
 Love the flowers!

Time to head home - I make Gary drive a little further down the road
so I can get a picture of the Gate House.   This Lodge was built in 1932 to keep motor vehicles off John D. Rockefeller Jr.'s carriage trails.  It is now lodging
for Park employees.
a glimpse of the sunset on the way home.

Didn't get our bike ride in but it was still a beautiful afternoon, plus we never would have gotten to hike the boardwalk.!
Hurricane Dorian is supposed to pass through tomorrow so we
won't be able to do much of anything.  They are closing alot of the
trails and Thunderhole.  It is supposed to  go directly over Nova Scotia tonight- hoping it fizzles out or changes direction!
