Trip North - Nova Scotia - Halifax

I start the day with a hike at Long Lake
The Dogs lead the way through the woods
and lead us to the water.

When we get home we pack up the men and head
into Halifax.  The QEII Aircraft Carrier is anchored
in Halifax Harbor
Gary drives past the Dingle so Gary II can see it

We arrive in downtown Halifax
and park down by the wharf.
A lovely day for a stroll along the water.

We head down towards Pier 21 - the equivalent of
Ellis Island - where the immigrants arriving in the country
were processed.

This sculpture is called "The Volunteers"  Linda is hoping the woman knitting
will volunteer some handy tips.
Samuel Cunard - Canadian shipping magnate, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, who founded the Cunard Line.
We go to the Farmers' Market

The place is huge and full of all kinds of produce, baked goods
and arts and crafts.
from there we head the other direction to look for a place for lunch

We catch a view of the QEII Aircraft carrier
peeking from behind the lighthouse

Looks like a good spot for lunch ahead
The birds seemed to enjoy it too
We continue on.
The Last Steps - a memorial where thousands of Canadian men and women took their last steps as they embarked on ships to Europe during the First World War.
The Seabridge
The new Queens Marque Development - The five-acre site will include a boutique hotel, luxury rentals and office, commercial and public space
Theodore the Tugboat
We head back through town
I want one!
a View of the Citadel
and the Mac & Cheese festival
and back to the beginning

In the 1700's Acadians refused to sign an unconditional oath of allegiance to Britain.  British sought to eliminate any future military threat posed by the Acadians  by removing them from the area.  the result of the Deportment was the devastation of both a largely civilian population and the economy of the region. Thousands of Acadians died in the deportation.  The American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow memorialized the event in his poem Evangeline

On the way home, we drive by the site where the crane collapsed
during Hurricane Dorian

A great day in Halifax.
