Trip North - Nova Scotia - Peggy's Cove

So off to Peggy's Cove today!
We were told to be sure to stop in Prospect Cove on our way
It[s a quaint little town on the water
I guess we don't have too much further to go.
Quite the views

We  turn around to find the High Head Trail - we think this is it but there is no parking.
Google shows access further up the road so we go there
It is a pretty trail
but it is supposed to go along the water.  After a mile or so we decide this isn't the trail and turn around.
Not a lot of time so we continue on towards Peggy's Cove
This looks like as good a place as any to have Lunch

They know me!

Can't complain about the view
or lunch - we shared a fisherman's platter
Next stop - Peggys Cove

We made it!
along with 8 or 9 Tour buses - some of them double deckers.
Glad we decided to eat before we got here!

Though this place looked fun
I can see why it attracts so many tourists - it is a quintessential scenic
small fishing town
photo opportunities abound
Of course I head straight for the Lighthouse - this is the view looking
back to the town.

Ta Da!
There is even a bag piper playing dressed in Nova Scotia Tartans
Gary takes a trip around the lighthouse
Glad it isn't a stormy day

The coastline is solid rock

It is so immense that the tourists look like ants.
A view back to the Lighthouse
Gary keeps an eye out

Like I said - photo ops everywhere

This shop had all sorts of fishing paraphernalia - that is a whale jawbone in the back
Buoy oh Buoy! Does he have Buoys!

I wanted to do the deGarthe Gallery but it was closed for renovations
Fortunately his Memorial to Fisherman is outside
He carved this Monument to Nova Scotian fishermen on a 100 foot long exposed granite outside the Museum. It depicts 32 fishermen, their wives and children, St. Elmo with wings spread, and the legendary Peggy of Peggy’s Cove.
In spite of the crowds Peggy's Cove was
most enjoyable!  Our next stop -
The Swiss Air Memorial

On September 2, 1998 Swissair Flight 111 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean at the entrance to St. Margaret’s Bay - about 5 miles off the coast of Peggy's Cove. All 229 people on board perished.

The crash site is center on the Horizon when standing on the Memorial

We had hoped to continue on to Mahone Bay and Lunenburg but we are
all going to a local playhouse to see a play
A great day!
