Rochester - Farm Days

My friend Laura and her daughter Elizabeth invite us to joint them at the Old Fashion Days in Scottsville.

A little meet and greet with some horses
Plowing the fields the old fashioned way
A horse drawn wagon ride - Gary with Elizabeth - who he calls Betty
There were a few new additions in the barn

From there we went to where the animals are kept for Stokoe Farms so that Elizabeth could work on leash training the African Zebu

 2 Camels

A pesky little Goat

and a Patagonia Mara

They all get along
Sometimes they give each other kisses
Sometimes they want to kiss you
Or whisper sweet nothings in your ear
Or eat out of your hand

They like selfies too

We stop back at their house and Gary helps Elizabeth build a fairy house.

What a nice day!

Hamburg PA to Unadilla, NY

We leave Cabela's and it's not long before we are in New York!

We stop in Unadilla, NY to visit Gary's former neighbors.

They have a beautiful old farmhouse.
and a place for us to park for a few days
Tucson wants to meet the sheep
Be careful what you ask for

There are two sets of twins - one white
 and the other black
Oh I would definitely be a vegetarian

We spent the days raking and cleaning up the lawn - it felt good to do yard work.  Then had dinner together.

We also took a drive or two

A very nice stay.  But time to move on.

Gettysburg to NY

We leave Gettysburg and head north.  Gary is always telling people how far we drove to Alaska because I kept saying "Oh honey, it's only 50 miles that way to go see this" etc. etc.   Well guess where we drove 60 miles out of the way to see for Gary . . .

Wait for it!
 Wait for it!

Yes - Cabela's in Hamburg, PA.  Not quite Crater Lake - but it makes him happy.

They have water available, plus outside dog kennels and a horse paddock.

The store is huge!  It even has a restaurant on the 2nd floor.
It is like a Natural History Museum but get's depressing for me after awhile.

They even have an Aquarium

We were running ahead of schedule so opted to stay over a 2nd night.

Gettysburg -- Final Day - Eisenhower Farm

We park the RV in the oversized parking and hop on the bus to the Eisenhower Farm
It was a narrow road in so we could see why there was no parking there.
This was Eisenhowerr's Summer Whitehouse.  The Eisenhowers bought the 189-acre farm for $40,000 in 1950.
The house is 4100 square feet with 24 rooms (8 are bathrooms) and has 99% of the Eisenhowers' original furnishings.  The fireplace mantle was in the East Room of the White House when Abe Lincoln was president.  It was purchased by the Staff for the Eisenhauers - it came from the Whitehouse when remodeled.

The round settee was a gift from Dwight to Mamie after she admired one on a trip to France.  The majority of the furnishings in the Living Room were gifts.
