Guilford Lake State Park

We arrive in Ohio

and Guilford Lake State Park.  It was the last spot and it was a tight turn in and picnic table is on the wrong side.
One of the Pull-through sites would have been nice
It is a nice little park but was originally set up for tenting.  Tight spots and turns for big rigs.

The Lake

We stayed for a couple of nights until we could get up to the "Farm"

Parker Dam State Park - Beaver Dam Trail

Today we do the Beaver Dam trail
As usual Tucson leads the way
He does stop and wait for us from time to time
He waits to see what trail to take though I know he's hoping for the Snow trail
Tucson playing Beaver

Lunch time for this bird
From the Beaver Dam area you enter a dense forest

Some of the old road equipment
We take the short cut to the other side of the reservoir
Tucson cools off

Made it!
There are lot's of Monarchs around

Another great day at Parker Dam State Park

Parker Dam State Park - Elk Center

We keep hearing that we should go to the Elk Center so we go!

The trees and milkweed are full of butterflies
A group of people were staring at a tree so I venture over to see what it is - a bluebird

What are you looking at?? Haven't you ever seen a bluebird before?

No Elk at the Center so we take the driving tour.  Not very long before we spot a couple just outside of town

Gary says there are some Elk out in the field in the distance.
So I zoom in.  Yep he is right.
We drive a little further down the road and I spot this one in the shrubs by the road.  Would have missed her if she hadn't lifted her head to sniff around

A whole herd was hanging out at this guys house.
A beautiful area to visit

Parker Dam State Park - Trail of the New Giants

A  Tornado passed through this area and took out a large area of trees.  We walk the trail through that area

Looks like the trees have made a good comeback
One of the remnants

a little detour for a scenic overlook

A nice view of the reservoir and beach
The boys take a break before heading back.

a nice hike!

Parker Dam State Park - PA

We leave NY and head into Pennsylvania
A minor mishap - tractor trailer overturned on the side of the road.
We had hoped to stay overnight at a Walmart but when we got there it was too small to stay.  We pulled over to a rest area but posted with 2 hour parking limit.  Gary stopped and helped out this driver of what looked to be a private tour bus.
We finally find a truck stop to stay at.

 We pass through beautiful countryside
We end up at Parker Dam State Park
We are ahead of schedule for arriving in Ohio.  Gary called and got a spot at Parker Dam State Park for a few nights.  We are fortunate as it is Saturday.
Just as we get to our site, a torrential rain starts.  We squeaked into the spot only to find out it doesn't have electricity!

Back to the office and they have 1 spot left with electric in the Dog section.
The Dog section has paw prints at the site and along the road.
The rain has stopped so we take a stroll in the Park.
The Parker Dam

They have a nice beach but it was closed the first couple of days because of the torrential rains - they need to test the water quality before opening again.
They have bat boxes around the reservoir but we hear the bat population has declined because of white nose syndrome.
However, there is no shortage of swallows to take care of the bugs.
We take the boardwalk

I think we're going to like this Park.
