Trip back to New York - Moreau Lake - Shelving Rock Mt. Summit Hike

August 29, 2018

Today we drive to Shelving Rock Mountain for a couple of hikes.  One to the Summit - Tucson leads the way

The hike to the Falls is just down the road

The trail follows a stream.  Gary looks like he could use a dip
 Through the woods
and they they are Shelving Rock Falls
 Gary enjoys a dip
The boys hang out together
Until Caleb discovers the lower pool
and puts himself out on a limb
A couple good hikes deserve an Ice-cream so we visit Martha's
So many choices
Caleb had to put 1/2 his medium cone into a container before it fell over - my Banana Split was a medium (with banana and raspberry softserve) yum !  If you are ever in Queensbury, NY don't pass it by!

Trip back to New York - Moreau Lake

August 24 - 31, 2018

We stop and pick up Gary's grandson, Caleb and take him up to Moreau Lake State Park camping

We get a really nice site - but roughing it - no water or electricity

Caleb sleeps in a tent out back

 Just like ducks to water
 The boys take the plunge

While Caleb is visiting with a friend
We check out the nature center

and this  bear checks us out
There is a butterfly release - these guys are going to Mexico where dental work is cheap but they still practice good dental hygiene here
We get a visit from a walking stick on the truck

Trip back to New York - Stonybrook State Park

My favorite State Park in New York is Stonybrook.  It is the first Park I stayed in when I started my journey in 2012.  Unfortunately there is only 1 spot that will accommodate our 5th wheel and it was booked.  Fortunately it is only 20 minutes from Letchworth so we stop on our way out.

The pool - which is closed for the Season.
There are two trails - upper gorge and lower gorge.  Since we only have an hour of so we do the lower gorge along the brook

The natural slate walks lead to bridges and stairs
 and many different sizes waterfalls

did I mention stairs?

Tucson decides to take a dip

Stone pillars are from an old railroad that brought people to the park in the late 1800's
The Gorge Trail ends and these stairs take you up to the Rim Trail.

We turn around

What goes up must go down
 Tucson checks it out

 Back to to the Pool.
and time to get back on the road
