Trip East - Myrtle Beach - Holiday RV Resort, Socastee SC

Our next stop is Myrtle Beach.  We are attending a Grand Design Rally there the 27th to May 1st.  We get here a week early so we can hook up with my High School friend and her husband who are here on vacation.  I booked a week at Hideaway RV Resort in Socastee on the Inter-coastal waterway about 10 minutes from Myrtle Beach,

We spot a Lakewood Sign along the way, where the Rally is being held

We get to Hideaway

A nice site, not on the water but plenty of shade which is good
because temps are supposed to get in the 80's

The park is right on the waterway.

Premium sites are across from the water, but don't have any shade.

Not too big, it has just over 100 sites and they are not cramped

We arrive on Wednesday and make plans to hook up with my friend later at their condo in Myrtle Beach.  The next day we get together again.  Just before we arrived in Myrtle Beach the Check Engine light came on so we called Hadwin GMC in Conway for an appointment early Friday morning.  Thought it would be an easy fix but it was something to do with the fuel injectors so they would need the Truck all day.  Call my friend and they came and picked us up and brought us back to the campground.  Made plans for dinner that evening and they were going to drop us at the GMC dealer to pick up the truck but we got a call that they would be keeping the Truck.  They replaced a fuel injector but it was still reading an error code and were waiting for a call from GMC.  We had a great dinner at Bonefish Grill I finally got to try Black Cod - it did not disappoint!

Meanwhile we get a call from GMC Monday that they discovered the problem and it need a specialized part to repair so who knows when we will get the Truck back, hopefully before Wednesday when we have to go to the Rally.

So we just relax at the RV park because there are also no rental cars to be had and my friend has gone back home.  They have a small fishing pond with a trail around it.

and sometimes we just sit by the waterway

Fortunately late Monday we get a call that they found the part locally and it will be ready by 5 pm.  They send a courtesy car to pick us up.

The next day we head to the Beach we find a parking spot and I go to pay but see a sign that we don't need to pay.  Unfortunately when we get back there is a ticket on the windshield.  We head to the Parking violations office to protest.  I state that the sign said no payment needed before May 1st.  She replied it said March 1st.  I got my picture out and said Oops!  Why would they abbreviate March!?!  Apparently a lot of people make the same mistake.  They waived the ticket a first time offense.

Looks like there will be a new hotel soon

Not too busy yet

Gary in front of his fleet

Back at the RV Park I spot this bluebird and worm.  A sign that we should get an early start to our next spot at Lakewood RV Resort tomorrow

Trip East - Modoc, SC

We head out early, gas up and get on the road.  Not long before we hit South Carolina.

and before you know it we get to the campground

We pull in and find our spot

Back in and get settled.

Once again a waterfront site with a great view.

Tucson looks out longingly at the water

We take a walk and find a beach

A courtesy dock for loading boats

The campground is laid out on 3 peninsulas, we are on the longer middle one site 39

A walk down our Peninsula

and the end of our Peninsula - nice site but a bit of a problem turning around for us.

This is the only site with no water and electric

No big boats but mostly recreational and fishing

We take a short ride to go see the Thurmond Lake dam

 A nice visitor center.

Nice informational displays about the area

There are 13 campgrounds on the Lake with 554 total sites

We drive down to the Dam

 No water flowing today

I try my hand at Fly-fishing.  Gary gets me set up

I dropped my line in the water to get some line out and immediately got a very small fish.   Let Tucson sniff it then let it go and no more bites for the rest of the day.

It's Gary's turn

Tucson wants Dad to catch a fish

No barges passing through but some planes

I think they've marked our spot

Weather is warming up and the turtles are out enjoying a conga line

a great stay.  The day before we leave it was a rainy morning.  There was one washer and dryer up at the bathhouse so I decided to do a load before we left for Myrtle Beach.  The coins wouldn't go in the slots so I went up to the Gate house to complain.  She said that they were free.  Just push the coin holder in with the lid down.  So I got 3 loads of laundry done!

Time to enjoy a fire our last evening!

Next stop Myrtle Beach

Trip East - Diamond Lakes - Augusta, GA

Our next stop was Modoc Army Corp of Engineer park in SC just north of Augusta, GA but they had a bad storm go through and they closed for a week for repairs.  I found this County Park for the night and we will head to Modoc tomorrow when they re-open.  The gate was closed when we arrived, but there was a security guard.  I was concerned, but he said it was Senior Skip Day and they wanted to keep the kids out.  I said well perfect cause we are a couple of seniors skipping around the country!

A nice big back in site, one night so we don't even have to unhook

A small pond

Camping for Dummies.  I never did find the electric hook up - they forgot the sign!

We are only about 40 minutes to Modoc, figure since they've been closed, our site should be available early so we will head out early tomorrow
