Flagstaff, AZ to Kanab, UT

We leave Flagstaff and head towards Kanab.  It's pretty flat.

But then we hit some mountains

 and a long climb up

I caught a picture out the back window

 before we hit the bend
It leveled out again but looks like the North Rim
of the Grand Canyon ahead
Make it to Page Arizona.  Our original travel plans called for stopping here to see Lake Powell and Antelope Canyon but everything is closed due to Covid 19

The Hiking trail to Horseshoe Bend however is still open so we pull in there.  Usually a $10 parking fee for RV's but no one collecting today.

We have no trouble finding a parking spot
and we're off for Gary's first hike since he injured his ankle.
It is a 1.5 mile round trip hike and pretty level.  We are able to follow the sign's request for social distancing
I have poop bags for Tucson - but it looks like someone didn't
clean up after their dinosaur
Gee Dad - it looks like an awful long way to go swimming!
This is the way to see the Canyon!
 What a spectacular view!
Those dots in the water are boats.

We head back and take a break in shade

The next stop is the Glen Canyon Dam
The bridge over the Gorge
Dam that's tall. It is 710-foot high was built from 1956 to 1966.  It  forms Lake Powell, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the U.S. with a capacity of 27 million acre feet.  One acre foot is 325,851 gallons - the math hurts my head.  It is currently just below 1/2 of capacity.

 Does look inviting
 Time to move on

and before you know it we are in Utah.

Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument loom ahead.

We make it to Kanab.  I had books an RV spot 7 miles south in Fredonia

A little start up RV Park - no shade but quiet and reasonable for one night

Tomorrow we will make it to our destination - Escalante Utah

On the Road - Tucson to Flagstaff

Ready to hit the road
It's 96 degrees and the hottest part of the day is usually 3-4 p.m.

 The signs of the times

Time for a break
Tucson checks out the view

and a beautiful one it is!
 Cactus blooming here too

Looks like it's time for lunch

Salad with grilled chicken and a great view

Back on the road
 Looks like cooler weather ahead

and we make it to our first stop

Tucson sees his first squirrel in 6 months

We got a nice level pull thru site so we didn't even need to unhook!
Tomorrow should make it to Kanab, Utah

Tucson - The last hurrah

Social Distancing continues.  I got to the grocery store at 6 a.m. and was able to score a 20 pack of Scott's 1000 toilet paper so I am good until October!

I continue painting Rocks

Found a new Dog Park that is open

We are getting stir crazy so we take a drive to Reddington Pass

It started out paved but changes to dirt road
 a Petrified creature?
It is a really pretty drive.  The thistles are over 5 feet tall here!
It is a windy beautiful drive.
A trailhead for the Arizona National Scenic Trail which stretches 800 miles spanning the entire length of the State.  Maybe another time.

We turned around a little ways down the road.  We could have done the Loop which is 120 miles but short on gas and time
Cactus are staring to bloom

We were going to do Aqua Caliente Park the same day but heard it was closed.  We later found out it was only closed Easter Sunday to avoid large crowds gathering, so we head there another day,

Translating to Hot Water, it is a101-acre park featuring a warm spring and pond . It has a history of evidence of human habitation dating back about 5,500 years. In 1873, a ranch and health resort was developed to promote the curative properties of the warm springs. In 1984 local businessman Roy P. Drachman donated over $200,000 toward the purchase of Agua Caliente Ranch

 Hundreds of Turtles
 and some Ducks too

What a beautiful spot - wish we had found it sooner!
Tucson gets some last hugs from Paula,
President of the Tucson Fan Club.

Looks like it's time to head out!
